4 Ways to Survive Night Sweats!

Waking up in the middle of the night drowning in your own ocean of glistening sweat is never the best way to wake up—I’d prefer breakfast in bed,  or that moment your alarm goes off and you realize it’s a mistake and you can sleep in!  Best.  Feeling.  Ever.

But back to the night sweats…

Well, they suck.  Talk about feeling uncomfortable, icky and gross.  Just the sheer nuisance of having to deal with the issue in the middle of the night can be frustrating.

But from experience, I have realized that depending on your medications and your body’s condition, it is a symptom you must deal with so I tried to find ways to help me cope.

Here’s what I came up with:

1. Keep a change of pajamas nearby.

When you’re half asleep, convenience is key.  Keep your change of clothes and underwear on a chair next to your bed, on your nightstand or even laid out on the corner of your bed.

Lay things out in its order for you to put on.  For example, I lay out my bottoms first, then underwear, followed by my pajama top.

Crohnie Tip*

During your moment of night sweats, sleep in Pjs that are light in fabric.  I suggest cotton.

2. Get Dry.

Wipe off with a towel.  You can pick the size depending on how bad your episodes are, and put it next to your change of clothes.  Before you change into your new set, dry yourself off.

3. The Flip Maneuver.

Okay.  By this time, I am a bit cranky and want to get to bed fast, so I don’t have the patience to replace my soaking wet pillow cover, just flip it over and deal with it in the morning.  Or grab the fresh pillow next to you.  But if it’s really bad, have a fresh pillow-case waiting near by so you can change it quickly and get back to dreaming.

4. Use an Essential Oil to Return to Sleep.

I don’t know about you but sometimes after all that activity—which usually involves a tinkle trip to the bathroom since you’re up already—it can be hard to fall back asleep.

I recommend rubbing Lavendar Essential Oil by Young Living on the bottom of your feet with a carrier oil, like coconut oil, to get you back into sleep mode.
